Welcome

Welcome to day two of Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2012. After the excitement of the opening day, which saw a very busy exhibition floor, it was down to business on day two. Feedback from exhibitors so far indicates there have been some great business opportunities being put forward and discussed.

It was interesting to hear expert analysis from Cluttons Middle East that the first quarter of 2012 has seen a stronger interest in apartments on Abu Dhabi island as prices are becoming more competitive. Improvements in infrastructure and amenities throughout the UAE capital are also expected, citing the announcement of several retail units due to open in Marina Square in the second quarter of 2012.

The Middle East Real Estate Summit tackled important issues throughout the day, and there were a number of excellent presentations and debates discussed. Emile Habib, Managing Director of property developer Gulf Related, advised delegates that Abu Dhabi property developers should focus their attention towards mixed use developments because demand still has yet to catch up with supply in the capital. Quote of the Day
In Abu Dhabi, buyers are looking for quality; they are looking for location, accessibility to highways, schools, to shopping, and new products that we are beginning to see are mixed use developments such as the ones on Reem Island and the Corniche. If developers build a property ideally located that is different from what we have on the market today, there is potential for growth in the residential sector.
