Prof. Hamdy is the Vice-Chancellor of Medical & Health Sciences Colleges at the University of Sharjah, U.A.E. He also serves as a Senior Consultant in Pediatric Surgery at Qassimi Hospital in U.A.E. He is the Vice President of the World Federation of Medical Education and a Consultant on Medical Education for WHO and UNESCO. He is a Member of the Editorial Board of The Journal of Medical Education.

He graduated with honors from the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, Egypt back in 1967. He completed his Fellowship in Medical Education at Boston University, USA and earned his Ph.D. in Medical Education from the University of Groningen, Netherland.
He's a Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

He has served as the Director of Medical Education for the Ministry of Health in Bahrain and Dean of College of Medicine and Medical Sciences in Arabian Gulf University prior to his current appointment.

He's an international authority on medical education with vast experience in all its fields.
