Ali Ghellai, Jr., MD, FACS is a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is currently the Chief of surgical oncology and a consultant hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeon at Tawam Hospital.

Dr. Ghellai has completed more than forty postgraduate clinical courses in advanced laparoscopic surgery and hepatobiliary & pancreatic surgery, in addition to that he attended several leadership and management training courses.

As a leader and an administrator, he served in more than twenty hospital & administrative committees. He was involved in the policy making and the restructuring of the Department of Surgery in Tawam Hospital. He was also a member of the Surgery Advisory Committee on the Scope of practice and competence frame work, Health Professional License Department, Health Authority of Abu Dhabi. For his great efforts as Chair of Surgery at Tawam Hospital, he was awarded the Exemplary Contribution Award 2011.

Dr. Ghellai has become a highly respected mentor in his own right. He has been an active member of more than 12 academic & scientific committees. He was involved in education since his early career and was an invited examiner in several medical schools & universities; he presented over 70 lectures and over 20 surgical video presentations at high-level national and international meetings.

A pioneer in surgical skills training, as Director, of Minimally Invasive Surgery, he initiated the first program for the General Surgery Residency at Guthrie Clinic and the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pennsylvania. He has directed and conducted over thirty international advanced surgical skills training workshops.

Dr. Ghellai has been recently nominated for the UAE-liaison role for the International Association of Surgeons, Gastroenterologists and Oncologists.
